Volkswagen has unveiled its all-new ID. Polo, the first fully electric iteration of the beloved Polo hatchback. The ID. Polo is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform, and pre-sales of the electric hatchback are slated to commence in overseas markets from the end of April 2026.
The ID. Polo is the first model in Volkswagen’s lineup to adopt the new “Pure Positive” design language. Standout features include connected LED headlights at the front, daytime running lights (DRLs), and an illuminated Volkswagen logo in the centre. The neatly styled bumper features an air dam flanked by vertically oriented intakes, along with a discreet splitter.
The overall design retains elements of the quintessential Polo silhouette while introducing a fresh modern look. The C-pillar design is inspired by that of the original Golf. Interior updates The ID. Polo features a two-tone dashboard with a 13-inch freestanding infotainment screen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Below this are AC vents, an array of physical controls, hazard lights, and basic climate control functions, including defoggers. The car also features a floating centre console with a wireless charging pad, a rotary knob for media controls, cupholders, charging ports, and ample storage space. Other features include dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, leatherette upholstery, a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM, and vehicle-to-load functionality. In a feature-rich package, the ID.
Polo also offers a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a fixed panoramic sunroof, and 12-way powered massage seats with memory functions. The ID Polo will be offered with 37 kWh and 52 kWh NMC battery packs, both paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing 290 Nm of torque. The 37 kWh variant delivers 116 hp in lower-spec versions and 135 hp in higher-spec variants. Volkswagen claims a range of 329 km, with DC fast charging limited to 90 kW.
The 52 kWh variant produces 211 hp, offers a range of 454 km, and can charge from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes using a 105 kW DC fast charger. Beyond the EV launch, Volkswagen has also confirmed that a sporty 226 hp GTI version is in development. Prices for the ID polo would start under Rs 27.76 lakh.
