Was Harry Kane’s brutal miss in England-Ghana result of ‘witch doctor’ curse?

England superstar striker Harry Kane had a chance to win his team’s Group Stage match against Ghana. In the 86th minute of the 0-0 game, English left back Nico O’Reilly’s header hit the crossbar and caromed directly to the left foot of Kane. The Bayern Munich striker airmailed the ball over the goal, and England-Ghana would ultimately end in a draw.
While most would chalk this miss up to bad luck or a tough bounce, there may be another reason: A curse from a Ghanaian witch doctor. “Ghana’s most famous witch doctor has said he will put [a] curse on England hotshot Harry Kane in a bid to boost the African nation’s chances in their World Cup clash,” the Daily Star reported ahead of the match. “Nana Kwaku Bonsam – whose name translates literally as ‘Devil of Wednesday’ – has previous form for using his magic to give Ghana an edge.” The witch doctor has waded into international soccer matches before. In 2014, he put a curse on Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, and the global superstar suffered a knee injury in that tournament. Nana Kwaku Bonsam did clarify that this time around, he is not looking for Kane to get injured. “I am not wishing him serious injury. It will be just enough to stop him against my country.
I will do my work so that it can help Ghana.” Whether it was the witch doctor or not, you can’t deny the facts. Kane—who scored two goals for his country last time out and had 61 tallies for Bayern this season—failed to deliver in the biggest moment of the England-Ghana World Cup match, and the draw did help Ghana move on to the Knockout Stage for the first time in their national team history. There is no word if Nana Kwaku Bonsam has cursed Croatia’s Luka Modric, who Ghana plays on Sat., June 27.
