Ghanaian expedition group Wanderlust Ghana has launched an ambitious overland and transoceanic journey from Accra to Toronto, Canada, in what is being described as a historic first by Ghanaians. The 2026 expedition will see the team travel across three continents—Africa, Europe and North America—passing through about 12 countries as they make their way to Canada. The journey also aims to rally support for the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to kick off on June 11. Team Lead Kwabena Peprah described the expedition as more than just a road trip, noting that it represents an effort to showcase Ghana on the global stage. “We are not just driving—we are putting Ghana on the world’s road map,” he said.
The initiative follows Wanderlust Ghana’s previous feat of driving overland from Accra to London, which drew international attention. The expedition is being supported by two Ghanaian companies—Star Oil and SIC Insurance PLC. Star Oil is providing fuel for the journey, while SIC Insurance is offering comprehensive insurance coverage for both the team and their vehicles throughout the trip.
According to the Managing Director of SIC Insurance, James Agyenim-Boateng, the partnership reflects a commitment to supporting bold Ghanaian initiatives. “We are not just underwriting assets; we are underwriting aspirations,” he stated, adding that the company is proud to support the team as they carry Ghana’s flag across continents. The expedition has been positioned as a symbolic “road to the World Cup,” with the team expected to arrive in North America in time to support the Black Stars during the global tournament.
