Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has challenged the management of Lafia Golf Club to develop revenue-generating initiatives around its expansive land, as part of efforts to enhance the economic value of the facility and promote sports development in the state. Speaking on Tuesday during the ceremonial tee-off of a golf kitty organised to mark the 70th birthday of the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (rtd), CFR, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s support for golf and other sporting activities in Nasarawa State. Represented by his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, Governor Sule described the Lafia Golf Course as one of the top 10 golf courses in Nigeria and a strategic asset capable of driving tourism, business and investment.
He urged the club’s leadership to take advantage of the vast land surrounding the course by developing viable proposals that could generate revenue and enhance the club’s sustainability. “As a government, we do everything possible to support golfing and sports in Nasarawa State. We have started to give a little support from time to time,” he said. The governor also commended the executives of the club for organising the tournament in honour of the Emir of Lafia, whom he described as a symbol of discipline, peace and exemplary leadership. “If you look at the Emir, he is a humble person with integrity. You can also understand that whatever we are doing here, we are borrowing from his legacy,” he stated.
Captain of Lafia Golf Club, Tony Effa, appreciated Governor Sule for his consistent support and described the Emir, who chairs the club’s Board of Trustees, as a humble and principled leader whose legacy continues to inspire members.
