Bihar Food Poisoning: Over 150 Hospitalised After Dead Lizard Found in Feast Food in Supaul

More than 150 people, including a large number of children, were hospitalised after reportedly consuming a contaminated meal at a Shraddha feast in Bihar's Supaul district. The incident occurred in Datua Ward No. 10 under the Jadia police station area of Triveniganj subdivision, where a dead lizard was allegedly found in the lentils served during the community gathering. The affected individuals were admitted to the Triveniganj sub-divisional hospital after complaining of stomach pain, vomiting, headaches and uneasiness.
Authorities said all patients are currently undergoing treatment, and their condition is reported to be stable. Dead Lizard Found in Dal, More Than 150 People Fall Ill The incident took place during a Shraddha feast organised for the funeral rites of Chhotkelal Yadav, a resident of Datua Ward No. 10.
According to local residents, around 500 people attended the event held late Sunday night. Panic spread among attendees after a dead lizard was reportedly discovered in the dal being served.
Shortly afterward, several people, including children, began reporting health complications. Balkrishna Yadav, an eyewitness, said, "We were all sitting together and having the feast. Around 200 to 250 people were lined up for the food.
While the people were eating, a full, intact lizard was found in the food. And another lizard was found in pieces where the younger children were eating. As soon as people saw this, a huge commotion broke out.
Shortly after, the children began complaining of stomach pain. There are about 60 to 70 children admitted here at the hospital." Following the incident, family members and villagers rushed the affected individuals to the Triveniganj sub-divisional hospital for treatment.
Police also reached the hospital after receiving information about the incident and began assessing the situation. Officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported food contamination. Triveniganj Block Development Officer (BDO) Abhinav Bharti visited the hospital and reviewed the condition of the patients. Hospital Superintendent Dr.
Indradev Yadav stated that the discovery of a dead lizard in the lentils had created an atmosphere of fear and apprehension among the public. He said more than 150 patients, most of them children, are receiving treatment at the hospital. "All patients are out of danger," Dr. Yadav said, adding that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and ensuring appropriate medical care for those affected.
Initial police investigations have indicated the presence of a dead lizard in the lentils prepared for the feast. Authorities are continuing their inquiry to determine how the contamination occurred and whether any negligence was involved.
Officials have not reported any fatalities, and the focus remains on treatment of the affected individuals and the ongoing investigation into the incident.
