Babar Azam has finally made a strong comeback to form during the (Pakistan Super League) PSL 2026 after a long period of poor scores. He led his PSL team Peshawar Zalmi to the final of the tournament. The former Pakistan captain is currently the highest run-scorer this season, scoring 588 runs in 10 innings at an impressive strike rate of 146.26 and an average of 84. Babar continued his good form by scoring his second century in four matches, smashing 103 runs off 59 balls and helping his team defeat Islamabad United by 70 runs to reach the summit clash.
With this knock, he achieved a major milestone by equalling a record held by former India captain Virat Kohli and current world No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma. Babar equals Kohli, Abhishek's record The century was Babar’s eighth T20 hundred in matches played in Pakistan, which is now the joint-highest by any player in a single country in men’s T20 cricket. Kohli and Abhishek also have eight T20 tons each, which they scored in India during the IPL and international matches.
Meanwhile, it was also Babar's fourth century in the PSL, making him joint-highest in the league along with Usman Khan. Apart from this, Babar created another record as captain. This was his ninth T20 century as a skipper, which is now the most by any captain in men’s T20 cricket, going past Faf du Plessis. He is also second (13) on the list of most T20 hundreds ever, behind the legendary Chris Gayle (22).
Even though Babar is doing well in franchise cricket, his international form has been under question for some time. His last T20I century came in April 2023. He did score an unbeaten 102 against Sri Lanka in November 2025 in Rawalpindi, which was his first ODI century in more than two years.
However, in Test cricket, he has not scored a century since December 2022. After being sacked as captain of the Pakistan team post the 2023 ODI World Cup, Babar was even dropped from the team on multiple ocassions. It will be interesting to see if he can take this form into international cricket.
