Atletico Dallas officially sign Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez has had an incredible career to date, having played in some of Europe’s elite leagues and setting records on the international stage. Since leaving CD Guadalajara in 2010 to move to Europe, joining Manchester United, the Mexico international made 157 appearances for The Red Devils, scoring 59 goals and grabbing 16 assists. Leaving United in 2015 after a season on loan with Real Madrid, the attacker went on to have stints at Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham United, and Sevilla, before heading back across the Atlantic in 2020, this time to the MLS. Hernandez spent four years with LA Galaxy before returning to his boyhood club, CD Guadalajara, where he played for another two years before being released in January.

However, the 38-year-old isn’t hanging up his boots yet as he’s become Atletico Dallas’ first ever signing. Taking to their official site, the newly formed USL Championship side reported: “Atletico Dallas Announces Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez as Club’s First Player” The statement continued: “Legendary Mexican striker signs two-year agreement with club option for a third season, becoming the first player in Atlético Dallas history. “The club today announced that Hernandez, one of the most accomplished and recognizable footballers of his generation, has signed a two-year contract with a club option for a third season, pending league and federation approval. Hernandez becomes the first player in Atlético Dallas history. “The announcement comes as Dallas continues to establish itself as one of the world’s premier soccer cities. “With millions of supporters across North Texas, one of the nation’s largest Hispanic communities, unprecedented youth participation, and global attention generated by the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the region has become one of the most dynamic football markets anywhere in the game.” Speaking for the first time as an Atletico Dallas player, and explaining his joining the club, Hernandez commented: “I’ve been fortunate to live the dreams that every young footballer hopes to experience, I’ve worn some of the biggest shirts in the world and played in incredible stadiums in front of passionate supporters. Opportunities like this, though, are different.” He continued: “I believe Dallas deserves a club that reflects its passion for football, its diversity, and its future. “I want to help create a winning culture, inspire young players across North Texas, and give our supporters a team they can believe in from the very beginning. “I didn’t come here simply to finish my career.

I came here to help build the future of football in Dallas.”
