A small stumble, a delay in coordination of limbs, and a little difficulty in balancing: these are some little signs that parents may have noticed in children or even perhaps in themselves. Most may brush these off as ‘just being clumsy’ and this may be the case, but in some, they may just be symptoms of a hidden condition -- dyspraxia. Formally known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), dyspraxia is a lifelong neurological condition that affects physical coordination. It does not affect intelligence.
Dyspraxia is a disorder that affects the coordination of muscle movements which should occur in a sequenced, smooth, orderly manner. The World Health Organization has identified dyspraxia as a lifelong condition where the symptoms vary, affected by age, treatment and environment.
